Emery has been taking steps now for the past few weeks, but just 2 or 3 at a time. I guess she was just building up the confidence to actually take off. Well, July 4th, of all days, was independence day for more than just the good ole USA!

Emery Turns One!
Emery birthday was quite a hit! We had a houseful here in Nashville with Andy, Courtney and Stafford driving in from Raleigh; Grammie and Grambo coming all the way from CA; Pap and Oma from Paducah and Hallie and Hannah making the long drive from their apartment 5 minutes away! It was a great time spent staying cool in the 90 plus degree heat, much like the day Emery was born!
Oma brought a little pool with her for Stafford and Emery to enjoy on the deck as our neighborhood pool isn't too toddler friendly...well, it is, it's just packed with mom's not wanting to get wet! They had a blast in their diapers and, from the sound of it, have both thoroughly enjoyed their pools throughout the month! We also enjoyed the real pool some on Sunday in between nap times!

It was a great Saturday to just enjoy grilling out, spending time with family and celebrating Emery's first year. I decided to make a strawberry cake for Emery's first birthday--not quite Ace of Cakes, but it was homemade and made with love! Emery wasn't too sure about the cake, but did eat some, more the icing than the cake, but poor thing woke up at 10:00 with a terrible stomach ache!

We are so thankful for our little girl and are having so much fun with her! I can't wait to see what this coming year has for us all!

Springtime and Sunshine
Spring is here now--woo hoo! In between all the nasty storms and tornadoes here lately we've been able to take advantage of some sunshine and be outside! One of the other weekends Great Granny Bryant came into town so we enjoyed some time out on the deck with the sunshine! Emery probably should have been in knee pads and gloves crawling around on the deck, but ya gotta look cute, right?!?
Here are a few pictures of Emery outside with her hat that she'll hopefully grow into a bit more this summer...thank goodness for straps on sunhats!

This was one of the first few summer dresses Emery's worn lately and she figured out quickly that crawling wasn't too easy in a dress! Amazingly within about an hour she figured out how to bear crawl all over the house--and on the deck--we were pretty impressed!

I think we had just told her no...haha. She has started showing her personality lately when hearing that word!

Thanks for coming down Grandma! We hope to see you again soon!

Farmer Fred
Sorry the video isn't great on this one. Emery was laughing really hard before I could get the video camera out--and then I had to hide it from her so she wouldn't just try and attack the phone!

Boing!!!
Since Emery was about 6 weeks old I've tried to work most Mondays and Fridays. Hallie and Hannah have done a lot of aunt babysitting for Emery on Mondays (okay, more than just Mondays), but a friend of ours through community group has also been blessing us the past few months offering to watch Emery and as Amy says, "watch her like a hawk." It's been a real joy to have such great friends to help us care for Emery, especially when I know both Amy and Emery are having a great time!
Amy took this video today of Emery playing--I can't believe she's 10 months already!
